Announcing the theme for the first Emoti-Art contest ever. And what more appropriate theme than -- Emoticon ART!
That's right. This contest challenges you to re-create a famous painting using emoticons. Here are some examples done in the past.
:thumb174517726: :thumb28977469:
You may pick any kind of art from any era. However, it must be a relativity well-known piece.
Now, as I mentioned before, to help make it fair, we are having two categories for entries: Emerging and Experienced Emoticonists. I am going to let each deviant pick which category they want to participate in. I am going to trust that you know your skill-level and will be fair. However, each entry will be reviewed by the judge and we reserve the right to bump you to the other category if we feel it's more appropriate. We have had a few people directly ask us where we think they belong, and we will do that if you feel uncomfortable picking yourself.
RULES:
Up to three entries per person
Entries must replicate the full painting. So if the painting had a background, you need to include it.
You must mention and link to this contest in the artist notes.
You must link to a graphic of the original painting in your notes.
There is no reserving paintings. So, that means more than one person can do the same painting.
Animated or static will be allowed, but contestants will not get additional points for animation.
JUDGES :

DEADLINE:
Contest ends April 15 at 11:59 CST That's six weeks, so there will be no extensions.

Apologies
There were a few journal entries published recently about a new co-founder to the group, as well as announcing a new contest. These journals WERE NOT authorized by me. Actually, there was a glitch in the priv system that allowed this person to auto-join. They proceeded to do all sorts of things in the group without contacting me first. Of course, this is totally unacceptable behavior.
Needless to say, I was very upset awaking this morning to find these changes and immediately deleted all journals. This person also has been banned from the group. Please disregard anything that came throug
Contest SOON!
That's right. Emoti-Art (https://www.deviantart.com/emoti-art) is going to have its first contest. And to help make things less stressful, we are going to have two categories of entries: Emerging Emoticonists and Experienced Emoticonists. I know there's been questions on how to do that fairly in the past, but we have a system that we believe will work and will allow those with lesser skills to participate without having to feel self-conscious competiting against veteran emoticonists. We hope this will also up it a level so that experienced emoticonists will get to the top of their game and make some awesome work.
The contest will be announced
Weigh-In
As most of you who watch or submit to the Group know, it's a showcase group. Mainly it's a group to collect higher-end emoticons which feature detailed pixel-art and sophisticated animation. Yes, yes, a few lesser quality pieces sneak in, but those are removed periodically when we do housecleaning.
The problem is that in recent days there has been a lot of complaints about there being too many emoticon groups. While some people feel this group is necessary, some don't. So, I am looking for some feedback. Do you think Emoti-Art (https://www.deviantart.com/emoti-art) is a necessary group? Do you feel that other Groups sufficient cover the content this group houses?

Do Not Be Alarmed - Just Tidying Up and Revamping
A quick note to all of the watchers, as well as contributors. I'm in the process of some housecleaning in the group. Unfortunately, there has been major confusion (still) as to what pieces should be submitted and/or accepted to the group. This group is NOT for chat-friendly emotes. The emoticon community has over a dozen groups which feature general, smaller emoticons. This group is for larger, more complex pieces. Stand-out pieces. We make exceptions for chat-friendly on rare occasion, but only when they have signification pixelling and animation.
As we have had several staff leave recently, and since I really need to get a handle on
